One of the things that all vehicle service professionals realize in our current environment is that we have to be able to get our training done online.
There are many advantages to online training. One of the most obvious ones is that when you’re learning, you do it at your own pace. With training material that includes videos, text, and image graphics that can be reviewed repeatedly as needed, it becomes highly obvious that this will be the future wave regarding training.
In the past, we’ve had to travel during the evening or sometimes for overnight stays to get to training facilities. This has cost a lot of money and time.
Today, all we need to do to get high-quality training is log in to a terminal and have a browser with a good, solid Internet connection.
One of the other developments in the online training platform is the ability to control the quality of what is learned through testing and certification programs.
As an online learner, you may also find it handy to take your certification test, print out a certification document, or download it for storage for easy reference.
At the pace technology is changing, along with the public’s perception of what a good service visit is, it becomes highly obvious that all vehicle service professionals need to stay up to date on all the methods that the motorist prefers to be communicated with.
In the past, the customer came to a service facility specifically to get something done. Today, the expectation is that we deliver safe, comfortable, and dependable vehicles to them. We provide high-quality service through condition-based inspections by a skilled technician using not only OEM recommendations but also previous experience with vehicles and the conditions in which they operate.
In the past, a motorist might have been willing to regard OEM-recommended service intervals as the Holy Grail. Over time, motorists have learned that OEMs focus on selling new vehicles by design every so many years. The motorist has also learned it’s in their best interest to look at vehicle ownership in the long run as overall cost per mile. A well-maintained vehicle can last many hundreds of thousands of miles and not just need to be upgraded every 3 to 4 years.
All this means is the need for good quality training will grow exponentially. Being able to access this important training whether your shop is a full digital shop or just starting out, will be a key to your long-term growth and future success
Learning at a time of your choosing in a busy service facility is one of the best ways to get high-quality training without the expense of travel or downtime.
